“Can’t I just have one day when everything goes smooth?”
How many times have you asked yourself that question?
It’s always something isn’t it?
Here’s the thing, there is always going to be something. It’s the restaurant business after all.
If you want to simply cook all day without interruptions you’ll have to do that at home.
This job demands constant problem solving, coaching and flexibility.
A hot, sweaty, unending grey area that will push you to your limits on the daily. It’s all there to make you a stronger, more resilient person.
I often regret letting myself get to the tipping point of burnout. Letting the daily struggles run me instead of accepting them and learning from them, so that I could better manage them and keep going.
Growth doesn’t happen when you are comfortable.
Get comfortable in your down time. In the time you set aside for yourself to recharge. This is the time to relax and take it easy.
To struggle means you are striving. Striving to be better. Striving to make your food better, your staff better, your operation better.
Learn how to appreciate these daily annoyances. They are tests, put there by the universes to see how you respond.
What can you improve, accept, change or walk away from upon further examination of this difficult event or circumstance?
More importantly, can you be grateful for it even though it sucks at the time?
Because I can almost guarantee that years down the road you will feel thankful for your struggles and proud of yourself for getting through them.
